Conversion Formulas
Besides using a Kelvin to Fahrenheit chart, you may also use formulas to convert them. To convert F to K, the formula is Kelvin = (Fahrenheit + 459.67) * 5 / 9. For instance, the figures involved in changing 58 F to K is Kelvin = (68 + 459.67) * 5 / 9 = 293.1.
Here is another way to change Fahrenheit to K. First determine the Fahrenheit degrees you want to convert. Remove 32 degrees from F. Multiply the figure you get by 5/9. Add 273 to the result. This will provide you the Kelvin equivalent to the F degrees. The formula used here is: K = 5/9 (” F – 32) + 273.
What is the Kelvin?
The Kelvin (can be symbolized by k or K) is a form of measurement of temperature or heat energy. The increments are similar to the Celsius. The major difference is that Kelvin is lower than Celsius. Zero Kelvin is equivalent to -273.15 C.
At this point, no heat energy can exist in a substance. This is known as an absolute zero. The measurement was developed by William Thomson, a mathematician and physicist. 273.16 K is also the triple point of water. Triple point is where water can exist as solid, liquid and gas.
