Fahrenheit to Celsius Converter
A Fahrenheit to Celsius converter is a tool used to find the Celsius equivalent of degrees in Fahrenheit. These converters can come in the form of calculators, computer programs or online conversion utilities.
Using web Based Calculators
These are freely available on the Web. You can find several of these using Google. While their designs may vary somewhat, operation is very easy. Type the Fahrenheit degrees in the field labeled “Fahrenheit” or F. Click the “calculate” button.
The equivalent in Celsius will be displayed. To change Celsius to Fahrenheit, input the Celsius figure in the C or Celsius box and press the “calculate” button. The degrees in Fahrenheit will be displayed.
Other Ways to Perform Temperature Conversions
To find the F equivalent of C, note the C figure you want to change. Multiply this figure by 9. When you find the result, divide it by the number five and add 32 to the figure. Now you have the degrees in Fahrenheit.
To switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius, remove 32 from the F degrees you want to convert. After dividing the figure by 9, multiply the numbers by 5. The result will be the degrees in Celsius.
Besides knowing how to use Fahrenheit to Celsius converters, knowing something of these scales’ origin may also prove helpful.
Origin of Celsius
This scale determines heat and cold from 0 (freezing point) to 100 degrees (the boiling point). It was created by Anders Celsius, an astronomer, in 1742. Celsius termed his scale centigrade. But in 1954, scientists agreed to change the name to Celsius.
However the term Centigrade is still occasionally used. It should be noted that in Anders’ invention, zero was designated as the boiling point and 100 the freezing point. After Anders’ death however, the setting was reversed. This setup is still being used today.
Use of the Fahrenheit
The Fahrenheit has been in use since the early 1700s, but it has been superseded by the Celsius in most nations except for the US and a few other countries.
In the United States, Fahrenheit is still employed for cooking, weather and other non-scientific applications. Canada also displays temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit. However, the weather is always stated in Celsius.
As you can see, Fahrenheit to Celsius converters are needed because both scales are still utilized in countries. Fortunately, these converters have made the task easier. Now with a simple click of the mouse you can get the figures right away.
